July 2005 - Women Build
- Portland, OR
In July, 2004, women volunteers in the Portland, Oregon, area began
building a new home for a family. This home was completed in March,
2005.
Like all Habitat homeowners, this
family bought their house through low payments on a zero-interest,
no-profit loan. They also contributed 500 hours of "sweat equity"
by working on their home and others' homes alongside volunteers.
Women Build events happen every
year in cities around the world. Women Build
encourages women to safely work together, embrace their strengths
and discover new skills while having fun.
Women Build raises awareness of
the Habitat for Humanity programs in Portland and encourages volunteerism,
donations and community involvement.
